Yam Kuih Premix

Steamed taro cake, or commonly known as Orh Kuih, is made from taro pieces and rice flour. It is usually topped with dried prawns, spring onions and deep-fried shallots before being served with chilli sauce. Yam kuih is a definite crowd-pleaser.

Frozen or fresh taro can be used for this premix, and can be easily found in the Asian supermarket. However, if it is unavailable at your area, or you want a change of taste, pumpkin is a great substitution!

Instructions

What you need:

  • 300g Yam
  • 1500ml  Water

Toppings:

  • 100g    Dried shrimp
  • 200g    Fried shallots
  • Red chillies
  • Spring onion

Steps

  1. Steam yam for 15 minutes until cooked.
  2. Mix premix flour and water.
  3. Sieve mixture and add in cooked yam.
  4. Cook over low heat until mixture is thickened.
  5. Pour into 9″ tray and steam for 30 minutes.
